GoldenEye: Source is a 2005 remake of the popular multiplayer mode from the original GoldenEye 007 (Nintendo 64). As a Source Mod, it includes a lot of new features, including new music, high definition textures and both classic and remade maps. While mostly faithful to the gunplay of the original multiplayer - only expanding where needs be to fit for a modern audience and have good balance - other features like leaning and the unique aiming system of the original have not been implemented.
Background[]
Like stated before, the main point of GoldenEye: Source is a recreation of the original Multiplayer. The mod features new and improved graphics, as well as new and modified maps. The choice of level setting and weapons is much more wider then the original multiplayer, and there are new weapon sets and maps, as well as updates of the existing ones.
Characters[]
Characters in GoldenEye: Source stayed the same as they were in the original. However, their main looks have been modified, and have somewhat comedically edited character bios.
Team MI6[]
- James Bond - Bond looks heavily different in this game, not resembling Pierce Brosnan in order to avoid legal ramifications. His occupation is selected as 00 agent. His character bio contains his most well known catchphrases "Shaken, Not Stirred" and "Bond, James Bond", and that he is "the 007 and has a license to kill."
- Alec Trevelyan - Trevelyan's occupation and agency is identical to James Bond's, his bio being based on his role in MI6 up until he was killed in action during the events of Facility. He is described as 007's closest friend. Alec is seen wearing a shirt with a Kevlar vest on top.
- Female Scientist - the female scientist (apart from being only available in Multiplayer and the credits), has ceased a drastic change over her first appearance. She now looks much younger then the previous female scientist. Her nationality has been selected to be French. Her agency is "Laboratories".
- Dimitri Mishkin - Mishkin now wears the coat and the hat from the film, attire that was missing in the previous GoldenEye. In addition, his face has also been changed to better match the film.
- Valentin Zukovsky - Zukovsky appears much more slimmer then he was in the original GoldenEye. Besides being just an arms dealer, his bio in GoldenEye: Source describes him as dealing in caviar, alcohol and information.
Team Janus[]
Team Janus represents the enemies of James Bond, which includes characters that would not normally be considered part of the Janus Crime Syndicate.
- Boris Grishenko - in his character bio, it says that Boris steals GoldenEye with Ourumov.
- Russian Soldier - his character bio mostly contains "comedy"-like, references (These are mostly based on their appearance in GoldenEye 64, such as: "Swatting Flies", "Not shooting over railings", "Guarding" and "Pushing Alarm Buttons".)
- Russian Infantry - his character bio states his duty to protect Russia.
- General Ourumov - his character bio stays same leading up to the events on Converted Missile Train in the original Movie.
- Baron Samedi - His nationality is of Trinidad. Samedi's appearance looks quite different from what he looked like in the original GoldenEye 64.
- Jaws - Due to being bragged about how Jaws is tall in his character bio, Jaws does not retain his height as he did in the original Nintendo 64 GoldenEye 64, and has the same height as every other. His nationality is Polish.
- May Day - her character bio says that she "possess super-human strength due to her heavy steroid use". This may have been based on her appearance in Bond Movie "A View To A Kill". Also, May Day looks much more different from how she looks in the movie and GoldenEye 64.
- Oddjob - Oddjob does not have the same height as he did in the Original GoldenEye 64 for the Nintendo 64, and now has the normal height as he did in the Bond 1964 film "Goldfinger". His character bio says that he also Auric Goldfinger's henchman. Also it says that he is expert in Karate and ruthless assassin. Though in the movie and GoldenEye 64, Oddjob is seen wearing a dark black outfit, where in GoldenEye: Source it's blue.
Sadly, some or a lot of characters from the original GoldenEye 007, didn't make it into GoldenEye: Source. These include:
- Male Scientist
- Natalya Simonova
- Xenia Onatopp
- Russian Commandant
- Janus Marine
- Janus Special Forces
- Naval Officer
- Helicopter Pilot
- St. Petersburg Guard
- All Civilians
- All Moonraker Elites
- All Siberian Guards
- Siberian Special Forces
- All Commandos
The reason for why most of these characters weren't implemented may be due to the lack of 3D character artists inside the team. Most of the current character models available inside the game were made before 2010, with the exception of General Ourumov, Russian Soldier and Russian Infantry, the former of which was added into the game in the Update 4.2 (2012) and the latter two in Update 5.0 (2016).
In the original GoldenEye MP, the default settings would always pick first player as Bond, and second as Natalya. The default player selection, would always be at 2 (From the availability of 2-4 players).
Scenarios[]
Unlike the scenarios in the original, scenarios in GoldenEye 007 have ceased a much wider choice, but with some name replacement.
Here is the list of all default Scenarios:
- Arsenal - essentially, a reverse of GG (Gun Game) server mod from Counter-Strike, where in the original GG, the weapons are from weakest to strongest.
- CaptureTheFlag - a team-based scenario involving obtaining the enemy flag and bringing it to your capture point.
- DeathMatch - the equivalent to the "Normal" scenario in GoldenEye 007. The "Normal" scenario from the original, was pretty much just renamed to "DeathMatch". This setting is one of defaults in the original GoldenEye 64's Multi Mode.
- DrNoArmor - the equivalent of the "Normal" scenario, that disables all armor.
- GunTrade - a gamemode where each player starts with a random weapon and killing opponents swaps the two combatants' weapons.
- LivingDayLights - unchanged from the original "The Living Daylights [Flag Tag]" scenario.
- LTK - unchanged from the original "License to Kill" scenario.
- MWGG - unchanged from the original "The Man With the Golden Gun" scenario.
- ViewToAKill - the goal of this gamemode is to stay alive as long as possible. Killing an opponent awards a percentage of the victim's 'inning time' to the attacker.
- YOLT - unchanged from the original "You Only Live Twice" scenario.

Weapons[]
In the original GoldenEye 64, the setting known as "Weapons:" didn't gave just the weapons, that are named next to this setting. They were actually sets of weapons, which contained much more then what is called. Thus, all of the "Weapons:" settings are actually combinations of various weapons.
Weapons has ceased a really drastic change over all of the components required for the server. Here is the full list of them:
<Random Set> - an equivalent to Counter-Strike's random map choice, although now with weapon sets and in GoldenEye: Source.

Health Setting (Handicap)[]
The handicap feature has been removed from the Source version of GoldenEye. Though, it's still possible to access through admin privileges on various servers, and Developer Console commands. The handicap would be 0 by default for all players.
Control Style[]
Control Style setting has been completely removed, due to no need for it, because there are customizable keybinds in GoldenEye: Source itself. The control style would always be 1.1 control style for all players by default in the original game.
Aim Settings[]
Aim Settings in the original will always have defaults of "Sight ON, Auto Aim ON". In GoldenEye: Source, however, the sight is most definitely on (although doesn't retain the unique aiming as it did in the original.) And auto aim is always off as the game does not feature any kind of auto aim or aim assist. Custom aiming settings can be set for mouse, such as sensitivity and mouse reverse. Also, Controllers can be used with editing of the settings as well.
Other Settings[]
Other Settings in GoldenEye: Source include:
- Usage of bots: How much bots to select, and what their level of difficulty will be (possible to set from Difficulty Agent to 007.)
- Max Players, Map Time (Minutes) and Round Time (sec.)
- Server Password
- Toggle of Cheat (Drop-down menu): Turbo Mode
- Toggles of Cheats (Check-boxes): Paintball Mode, Infinite Ammo, Allow Radar (always set by default.)
- Toggle of settings (Check-boxes): Prefer Teamplay (Override the setting of some maps that have deathmatch by default, to have Teamplay), Start Armed.
- Toggle of setting (Check-box) - Run on LAN (always set by default.)
Some Removed cheats include: DK Mode and Invincible, however, Invincible cheat can be used with Developer Console with settings "sv_cheats 1" and "god". DK Mode is unavailable in GoldenEye: Source, though this can be sort-of modified with modeling (which doesn't entirely work.)
