The Hunting Knife is a melee weapon that is similar to Unarmed but is much more powerful; it can kill most guards with one or two hits. It is actually one of the strongest weapons in GoldenEye 007, as its damage is greater than the Cougar Magnum, Moonraker Laser, or even a full hit of the Automatic Shotgun, and can be dual wielded for deadly effect. This weapon is unavailable by normal means, but it is granted to Bond by both the All Guns cheat and the 2x Hunting Knife cheat. Like Unarmed, this weapon can not break boxes or glass. This weapon has a very low range and can only hit when next to the enemy. That being said, multiple enemies can be struck with one knife swing, which is useful in crowded levels. The Hunting Knife is not featured in Multiplayer without the use of a cheat device.
Trivia[]
- It is one of the two knives in the game. The other one being Throwing knife.
- The Watch menu has the Hunting Knife simply called "Knife".
- This weapon is called the "Fighting Knife" in the instruction manual. This may point to it being loosely based on the famous Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife.
- In the Japanese version of the game, the weapon's cheat in Cheat Options, known as "2x Hunting Knife", has been replaced with a different cheat called "Dual-Wielded Sniper Rifle and Grenade Launcher". This is because at the time of the game's release in 1997 there has been a series of murders in Japan involving knives. So this cheat may have been removed from the international version of GoldenEye 007, because it was deemed offensive to the nation at the time. Based on this, it can be assumed that most appearances of this knife have been removed from that version ("All Guns" Cheat and similar knife-referencing).
