Water may appear in various places throughout GoldenEye 007. Water can not be walked on (due to barriers surrounding it, making it unreachable), and instead, if it is shot with a gun, a splashing sound can be heard. Sometimes, even when there is no water and is a black void instead, it may also be heard as an unintended and left over bug, like in Complex. This bug does not happen with the void in Aztec.

Appearance[]

In the original Nintendo 64 version of GoldenEye 007, water is the surface that has animated waves on it, which can be within several meters from Bond, but may be blocked by one or several barriers, which are sometimes visible and sometimes not. Water can not be walked over, and it is assumed that if this is done, Bond will sink into it and will have to swim out of it to get out. If GoldenEye 007 is somehow hacked to be able to remove the barriers surrounding water, Bond will be able to walk on it, and won't sink. This is an unintentional side-effect and only obtained through hacking/cheating. Water may have different kind of surface, depending on the location.

In Frigate, depending on rather the emulator is used and what kind of video settings selected, water of the sea may appear acid green in color, while on the original Nintendo 64 version, it will appear normal. Some video settings for the emulators may have updated water to be normal, but these video settings require better video cards and probably a lot of RAM.

Objects[]

Objects in GoldenEye never appear on the actual inside of the water, and rather, on top of it. Example - The ship La Fayette in Frigate and the small boat next to it, and these are only slightly sunk in. The water in GoldenEye is not transparent.

Trivia[]

  • Water is also possible to see in many other titles in the 1990s that have 3D environment. Most notably - Japanese LSD Dream Emulator. In it, water will appear much much different, and this time it's oddly walkable there.
